Los Angeles Contemporary Archives (LACA)

LACA's artist book library contains more than 15,000 small edition artist books by Los Angeles based artists. Rather than archivists and art historians alone determining the narratives around these items, contributing artists generate descriptions and indexed in first person or narrative form.  LACA also has two ongoing archival collections: 

Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE)

Collections include an online archive of exhibitions and programs from L.A.'s longest-running contemporary artist space, founded in 1978. Materials also include original examples of ephemera, publications, and editions can be displayed. Note: Acquisition by the Getty Research Institute includes approximately 500 boxes of original materials.

Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden

The Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden has a large archive of historic photographs relating to Rancho Santa Anita, Elias J.(Lucky) Baldwin and this history of the Arboretum. It also holds thephotographic archive of William Chrisman Aplin (1912-1993) a photographer who worked for Sunset magazine and photographed extensively the plants and gardens of Southern California.
