Archive / Collection information

Drum Barracks Civil War Museum & Research Library is housed in the Jr. Officers' Quarters of Drum Barracks, the Union Army Headquarters for Southern California and the Arizona Territory during the Civil War. Our focus is on the role of Los Angeles and California in the Civil War. Our primary sources include a complete set of the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion, transcribed copies of camp returns, photographs, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, cartes de visite, newspapers, periodicals, letters and published autobiographies and diaries. We have a large selection of secondary sources on California and the Civil War in the Far West, the US Army Camel Corps, Abraham Lincoln, Civil War battles and campaigns, the US Military, and American society, politics and culture in the mid-to-late 19th century.
