Tour of library preceding meeting; archivists in the graphics, photo, special collections and technical services departments spoke, and shared selected items from their areas.
Minutes of 2-14-17 meeting were approved.
Archives Bazaar
- 2017 Archives Bazaar: Saturday, October 21
- First Planning Committee meeting was held 3/20/17 (minutes available online). Next meeting to be announced soon…
- Exhibitor Registration open! Limited space so visit LAAS website and register soon!
- STILL LOOKING FOR CHAIRPERSON. Duties include producing monthly mtg. agendas, running meetings, coordination with the “wranglers” of each program. Chair position is not a large time commitment. Please consider volunteering! Contact Liza Posas
- Initial Programing Ideas:
- National History Day – Wrangler: Gwen Granados: Will build on the success of last year’s program.
- Needs logo, etc. early for promotion to schools
- Day of Preservation – Wrangler: Joanne Lammers, Kate Dollenmayer
- Lighting Rounds- Getty LA/LA exhibit – Wrangler : Liza Posas
- KCET/”Lost L.A.”
- La La Land: L.A. Portrayal in Popular Culture
- Have radio personality who covers LA moderate, like Kevin Roderick/L.A. Observed
- Historians, Authors and Publishers: How Archives Shape the Future
- Moderated by David Ulin or David Kipen

- August 8 (LAAS General Meeting – Will distribute promotional materials (posters, programs, save-the-date cards)
History Keepers Exhibit
- Planning for third year has begun.
- Opens 8/6/17 and runs through 9/27/17 – twice as long as previous exhibits
- Have applied for a Cal Humanities grant to fund a video component.
- Will allow hiring of videographer to visit up to three institutions/collectors and record the archivists about why the object is important, and expound on how it helps define southern California/Los Angeles.
- Expect to hear if grant approved in May.
- Call for entries to be issued in next few weeks.
LAAS Digitization Survey
- Will be distributed soon.
Home Movie Day
- Falls on same day as Archives Bazaar. Looking into having a “mini” version at the AB
- Event instructs on how to care for home movies, has archivists available to inspect films brought in, and ends with a showing of movies
