The Center for the Study of Political Graphics is celebrating 30 Years of Art & Resistance!
Please join us on Sunday, November 3, 2019 between 11 - 2 pm at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 North Sepulveda Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90049. There will be a champagne brunch, silent auction and an awards ceremony recognizing four outstanding honorees engaged in creative resistance -- Needed more now than ever!
Our 2019 Honorees
Art is a Hammer Award
Micah Bazant is a trans visual artist who works with social justice movements to reimagine the world. They create art inspired by struggles to decolonize ourselves from white supremacy, patriarchy, ableism, and the gender binary. Micah aims to make liberation look irresistible.
Historians of the Lions Award
Sabina Virgo and Kwazi Nkrumah are life partners and organizers who, for the past 27 years, have been working together as labor and community organizers. They have both been writers and activists since the 1960s Civil Rights movement. Sabina has been working with the Southern California Climate Action Coalition and the broader movement to combat climate change in Southern California. Kwazi is a political analyst, community organizer, and labor activist, and served as the co-chair of the Martin Luther King Coalition of Greater Los Angeles for over ten years.
Aris & Carolyn Anagnos Culture of Liberation Award
Nalleli Cobo co-founded a grassroots movement that succeeded in closing an oil well that was poisoning her South Los Angeles community. A community activist since age nine, she is considered among the top 100 of the world’s most influential people in climate policy.
